The Law Hill Murder

law hill murder Dundee _ hau Forensics

A murder inquiry was launched after an arm was found by a dog walker in the “Law Hill” in Dundee. Further body parts in plastic bags were dumped around the Law Hill. Gordon Dunbar was soon identified through DNA, fingerprints and an operation scar on his body.

The prime suspect, Alastair Thompson, was implicated after police investigation and thorough examination of his home and belongings for forensic evidence. Mr Dunbar’s head was never recovered during a massive police search of the area. Dr Hau gave expert evidence in this case at the trial in Edinburgh High Court in 1993.

Mr Thompson, known as the ‘Law Killer, was found guilty for killing Gordon Dunbar, wrapping his body parts in plastic bags and dumping them around the Law Hill in Dundee. He was sentenced to life and ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years in jail.  Alastair Thompson died in December 2011 while serving a life sentence in Perth Prison.
